It’s a crude analogy, but the size of one planet might be about [equivalent to] two of the zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,” Gerighty said.
“It could be two to three zones. But it’s not, you know, this sort of epic ‘the whole of England recreated’ approach,” he stated, adding that the planets in Outlaws will be “manageable in size for both the player and developer at Ubisoft Massive.”
Additionally, according to reports, Gerighty stated that all planets and locales are “handcrafted,” which means “we haven’t procedurally generated an entire planet.”
The game’s outlaw protagonist, Kay Vest, takes place between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
“When you think of a scoundrel, your mind goes to Han Solo, it goes to Lando, it goes to Indiana Jones, it goes to James Bond, it goes to Captain Jack Sparrow,” said Gerighty.
“It was the fantasy I connected with the most in the original [Star Wars] trilogy – as a kid, I was a much, much bigger fan of Han Solo and Chewbacca than any of the others.”
Massive, on the other hand, wished for its lead character to be “a little bit more relatable” than Harrison Ford’s. “More of a rookie, a petty thief, who ends up in a situation that’s much bigger than they ever expected,” Gerighty said.
Star Wars Outlaws, which was announced in June, is expected for release in 2024 for the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC via Ubisoft Connect.
